A Blackberry is most useful with a data plan. Unless you’re using a Wi-Fi phone, it’s the best way to get your email, use Blackberry Messenger, have browser access, etc. Some carriers, such as Sprint, no longer require a separate “Blackberry” data plan, but include the Blackberry service with their general unlimited data plans. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how Verizon handles this and if they’re still selling the Blackberry plan separately, but I can say that you definitely want some sort of data plan on your Blackberry (and preferably an unlimited one). HTH
Verizon DOES require a data plan on their blackberry devices, which ever price plan you choose you do need to pick one. Kinda a bummer, but if you’re planning on using a blackberry for what it was intended it does save you a ton of money in the long run.
Yes it is required. If you want to get a cool phone with a complete operating system, go with a regular PDA phone. If you get one with WIFI you can use it on the internet in hot spots. They don’t require a data plan, though I do reccomend one, because data usage can’t be blocked on them, and it is quite easy to accidentally use it then get charged a fortune.
